Brexit is on its way: On 29 March 2017, the United Kingdom (UK) issued the withdrawal notice according to Article 50 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), formally initiating the withdrawal process. Negotiating Brexit involves intricate legal, economic and political issues. In this context, it is not surprising that the EU also in the Brexit negotiations has stressed the integrity of the internal market and stated that “preserving the integrity of the Single Market excludes participation based on a sector-by-sector approach”. 54 It remains to be seen whether, indirectly, this is also a message directed at Switzerland.
